A universal perspective

Tomorrow we leave for the oncologist appointment in Anchorage - we will spend the night and go onTuesday afternoon (after a check-up with the surgeon and a stop with a new pediatrician). This word flashed up on our screen saver today, and I loved it in relation to this cancer of mine:

sub specie aeternitatis |ˈsəb ˈspē sh ē ēˌtərniˈtätis; ˈspēsē|adverbviewed in relation to the eternal; in a universal perspective sub specie aeternitatis the authors have got it about right.ORIGIN Latin, literally ‘under the aspect of eternity.’***As we prepare for yet another trip to Anchorage - four in just a month - it's easy to feel bogged down in the preparations, the long drives, thinking about life without boobs and/or hair, wondering what my girls will remember from his time, wishing that this is just one of my crazy dreams that I would wake up from already. We trust God fully that He has a purpose for this breast cancer, and yet, it has also rocked my put-everything-in-the-right-box compartmentalized world. But sub specie aeternitatis, this is pea gravel kind of stuff. God knows my tomorrow, and the day after that. We are eager to find out what the oncologist has to say so we can figure out how the treatment will define our schedules and living arrangements. Sub specie aeternitatis, these issues are teeny tiny stuff - but in the Brown universe, it will be interesting to see how this all falls into place. We're not sure if we will take up living in Anchorage for awhile, or commute or what. A dear friend of mine shared her prayer for us recently, and it brought me such comfort. In the moment that I read it, it both centered me and focused my eyes where they needed to be. Here it is:
Lord, I pray right now for complete healing in Rebecca's body, we are thankful that you are the God of healing and miracles. I thank You for this amazing, strong woman of God and I know that You have amazing plans for her future! I ask for peace for her, John, and the girls. I ask that You surround their family with people full of faith and encouragement. I ask that You would keep negative people away from them! Fill Rebecca to overflowing with faith, joy, and peace. Just let her feel Your presence in a new and real way through this all. Amen
Amen is right.
